Nkem NdefoPresident, Director of Certification,
TRE Certification Trainer

I believe our bodies are designed to protect us and carry us to safety – and then relax into a place of ease, connection, and joy.

Nkem Ndefo’s career began in the late 1980s, providing community health education to distressed populations including IV drug addicts and youth in foster care and inner-city schools. She witnessed intense suffering in these communities; her desire to relieve this suffering spurred her pursuit for the knowledge, understanding, and skills necessary to bring health at its deepest level to all age groups.

Certified as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Midwife, Nkem also has extensive post-graduate training in complementary health modalities and emotional therapies, including direct training and collaboration with David Berceli, the creator of TRE.

She has worked as a clinician, educator, and researcher in settings ranging from large-volume hospitals to small community clinics, and has maintained a busy holistic health private practice in Los Angeles since 2001. She is the founder of TRE Los Angeles, LLC. Additionally she serves on the steering committee for the Greater Los Angeles Trauma-Informed Task Force and is the past chair of the Global TRE Research Workgroup.

Testimonials

  • The introduction of TRE was a completely eye-opening experience for our members at Social Enterprise Alliance Los Angeles. As Social Entrepreneurs, our members are driven by making a positive impact in their community and in their business practices. Nkem Ndefo's instruction on the principles of TRE acted as catalyst for our members to recognize not only the role of trauma in their own lives but the role trauma plays in the communities they serve. They came away from the trauma-informed workshop inspired and energized. The application of TRE in the workplace represents a shift in how business is being done - one in which our members were so grateful to be exposed to.

  • Nkem has an amazing combination of bright clarity softened by attunement and the ability to provide a connective container for her students. Maybe it’s a midwife thing - she knows you can’t have the baby for someone, so it’s paramount that she give the client/student the sense that they can do it and that she is here with them and yet they need to step up in whatever way (or slow down and pay attention). She does it beautifully.
