Overview

Your students are distracted or disruptive, and not meeting their potential. Your clients lack motivation and follow through, or simply can’t break through plateaus. You feel like you’re just chasing your patients’ problems around a tree, more a game of whack-a-mole than true healing.

Regardless of your profession, working with people who are stuck in cycles of stress and trauma is frustrating. Stress and trauma create so much of the dysfunction, distress, and disease that block human healing, growth, and success.  Yet with effective tools that unwind stress and repattern trauma, you successfully navigate challenges, feeling competent and content in your professional abilities.

There are many stress reduction and trauma treatment tools. So what’s unique about Tension/Trauma Release Exercises (TRE®)?

  • Activates the human body’s physiologic mechanism to complete the stress and trauma cycle
  • Easily learned, reproduced, and practiced with immediate results being the norm
  • Successful in both stress management and trauma healing contexts
  • Designed to be used in individual therapeutic environments, group settings, or as a self-help modality
  • Effective as a stand alone practice and deepens all other stress relief practices, such as mindfulness, yoga, and meditation, etc.
  • Smoothly integrates with other traditional mental health and/or physical treatment modalities to support health and healing for those with more severe emotional and/or physical dysfunction or disease
  • Can be used across the lifespan from 5 years old to geriatric populations
  • Inherently cross-culturally adaptive due to the biologic nature of the therapeutic tremor
  • Minimal contraindications
  • Cost-effective

TRE® is an evidence-informed integrated somatic mindfulness and movement practice designed to reduce stress and heal trauma through the release of deep tension and trauma-related patterning.  Developed in the late 1980s by David Berceli, PhD, for use in high-conflict zones internationally, TRE® activates the body’s natural mechanism to restore homeostasis via a tremor response. This therapeutic tremor is evident across mammal species and is believed to be critical to stress recovery and biological survival.

Utilized by large military populations, traumatized communities exposed to natural and war-related disasters, first responders, mental health professionals, teachers, children, prisoners, individuals with PTSD, and athletes, TRE® has been taught in more than 100 countries. Currently 35 countries maintain active training and certification programs. TRE® training materials have been translated into 10 languages. For information about international certification programs, see the global website.

In 2011, the US Department of Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury recognized TRE® as a promising modality for regulating stress and promoting resiliency, especially due to its “simplicity, brevity, and immediate effects.” There is a copious amount of anecdotal evidence globally and pilot clinical outcome studies have verified efficacy in various populations in Canada, the US, and South Africa. • Nkem is an amazing woman. What she has brought to the world of TRE is transforming our entire TRE family - from her work with individuals and groups, to what she does in her own community, to her work training new students, to research, all the way up to supporting David Berceli. I felt so lucky to have her as my trainer. She is so present, professional, articulate, competent, empathetic, and self-actualized that one can only learn from her! Every moment that I spent with her I was in awe. She is a rare and precious gem and an amazing gift to the TRE community and to all who know her. I know that I am a better TRE Facilitator thanks to being able to work with her. And I even get to continue to check in with her as I grow in my skills, thanks to her developing Post-Certification Skype conferences where we share questions and answers regarding our TRE practice.
